Op Goede Vrijdag wordt in Groningen weer de bloemetjesmarkt georganiseerd. Deze jaarlijkse traditie trekt bloemetjesliefhebbers uit binnen- en buitenland. Maar wat nou als je flauw bent van al die bloemetjes? Kom op, je bent in Groningen! Ik geef je wat tips ;-)

On Good Friday, the Flower Market in Groningen is organized again. This annual tradition attracts flower lovers from both in- and outside the Netherlands. But what if you are bored with all those flowers? Come on, you're in Groningen! I'll give you some tips ;-)

1. MijnTafel
We starten ons rondje 'Groninger winkeltjes' aan de Oosterstraat 56, bij MijnTafel. Naar Fins concept verhuurt deze winkel tafels (nou ja, eigenlijk meer houten stellingen) aan mensen die daarop hun spullen mogen verkopen. Dit zijn vaak tweedehands spullen, maar ook creatievelingen gebruiken deze winkel steeds vaker om hun creaties aan de man te brengen. Deze winkel is mijn persoonlijke favoriet, omdat deze winkel het recyclen van spullen stimuleert. En soms vindt je er nou net dat éne item waar je al lang naar op zoek was...

Our tour 'Groninger shops' starts at the Oosterstraat 56, at MijnTafel. According to a Finnish concept, this shop rents tables (well, actually more wooden racks) where people can sell their stuff. Most of the things for sale are second hand, mut more and more creatives use this shop to peddle their wares. This shop is my personal favorite, because it encourages people to recycle. And sometimes you'll find just that one item you've already been looking for for a long time...

2. Handmade Hopes
Als je MijnTafel verlaat en rechts afslaat, kom je aan de Oosterstraat 28 Handmade Hopes tegen. Bij deze winkel biedt jongeren met een bijzondere achtergrond de kans om hun talenten te ontwikkelen. Dit resulteert in en winkel met een heel eigen sfeer en bijzondere creaties, gemaakt uit oude en nieuwe materialen. De laatste keer dat ik bij Handmade Hope was stond er een piano waar lekker op gespeeld kon worden, echt super gezellig.

Turn right when you leave MijnTafel, then you will see Handmade Hopes at Oosterstraat 28. This shop offers young people with a special background the opportunity to deveop their talents. This results in a shop with a unique atmosphere and really special creations, made from old and new material. The last time I was at Handmade Hope, there was a piano that could be played on, really nice.

3. Sostrene Grene
Loop verder door de Oosterstraat, dan kom je uiteindelijk op de Grote Markt. Als je langs de linker kant van de Grote Markt loopt zie je op nummer 43-44 het pand van Sostrene Grene, een winkel vol Scandinavische hebbedingetjes. Of je nou op zoek bent naar kaarsen in alle kleuren van de wereld, opbergdozen met een leuk design, ouderwets speelgoed, schilderspullen of bakspullen, de zusjes Grene hebben het. Fijne klassieke muziek op de achtergrond doet je het tumult van de bloemetjesmarkt even vergeten.

Continue your walk down the Oosterstraat and you will end up at the Grote Markt. At the left side of the Grote Markt, at number 43-44, you will see the building where Sostrene Grene is situated. This is a shop with a lot of Scandinavian stuff. Whether you're looking for candles in all colors of the world, storage boxes with a nice design, old-fashioned toys, painting materials or baking tools, the Grene sisters have it all. Nice classical music in the background makes you forget the tumult of the Flower Market for a while.

4. Diezijner

From Diezijner

Neem een broodje of iets te drinken (het is namelijk best een stukje lopen) en loop naar Diezijner, aan de Zwanestraat 29. Diezijner biedt createvelingen de mogelijkheid om hun spullen in een winkel te verkopen, waardoor deze winkel een heel afwisselende collectie designtassen, -kleding en -woonaccessoires aanbiedt. De kussenhoesjes hiernaast zijn van Studio Zeepsop en te koop bij Diezijner.

Grap a sandwich or something to drink (it is a short walk, so..) and walk to Diezijner, at Zwanestraat 29. Diezijner offers creative people the opportunity to sell their makes in a shop, so the shop offers a very diverse collection of designer bags, -clothing and -accessoiries. The cushion covers shown are made by Studio Zeepsop and for sale at Diezijner.

5. Flying Tiger
Voor deze winkel moet je echt terug lopen naar het hart van de bloemetjesmarkt; de Vismarkt. Op nummer 16 zit namelijk Flying Tiger, een Deense winkel. Als je op zoek bent naar een leuk klein cadeautje ben je hier aan het juiste adres.

To go to this shop, you have to walk back to the heart of the Flower Market, the Vismarkt. At number 16, Flying Tiger is located. This Danish shop sells lots of nice small gifts.

6. Lilly and Rose

Als je nou niet zo van al dat Scandinavische houdt, wandel dan langs de Vismarkt richting de Korenbeurs en sla voor de Korenbeurs linksaf de Folkingestraat in. De Folkingestraat is sowieso een straat die je niet mag overslaan, maar als je nou weinig tijd hebt zorg dan dat je in ieder geval even bij Lilly and Rose op nummer 7 binnenstapt. Geurrijke zeepjes, servies van de merken Emma Bridgewater, Blond en Greengate en duurzaam tafelzeil wordt hier verkocht.

If you don't like all the Scandinavian stuff, pleas walk past the Vismarkt in the direction of the Korenbeurs and turn left in front of te Korenbeurs. You're now in the Folkingestraat, which is a street you're not allowed to miss. If you're lacking time, please be sure to visit Lilly and Rose at number 7. Fragrant soaps, tableware of the brands Emma Bridgewater, Blond and Greengate, and durable oilcloth are for sale here.
